We are helping to improve birth experiences by teaching people to understand how our implicit memories that are formed when we are concieved, while we are in-utero, during birth and early infancy shape the way that we later experience becoming parents and how professionals experience supporting parents and babies.

The study of pre & perinatal somatic psychology provides fascinating insights into how conception, in-utero and birthing experiences create implicit memories that create long term patterns in our lives, and how they echo through our own pregnancy and labour.

Your own conception, womb & birth experiences can be triggered when you have a baby. Imprints can be triggered when something in the present time is similar to something you experienced very early in your life.  It can feel as it if it is happening now causing you to react subconsciously.

When we think about having a baby, conceive, during pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period these implicit memories can be amplified.  Everyone involved in the birthing process can intensely re-live their past experiences of coming into the world. Understanding how these interactions can occur and how they can impact us means that we can use that knowledge to improve birth experiences.

The good news is you don’t have to be a psychologist to be able to make a difference, you just need to join our community! Women, their partners, and birthing professionals can all play a part in understanding how our implicit birth memories show up during pregnancy and birth.

The echos of birth community is a digital online educational community that brings together parents, birthing professionals and other allied pre & perinatal professionals around the common mission to build a global community of 'Imprint Informed™' parents and birthing professionals, transforming the way that we experience and support birth to create positive experiences. Working together we will set our babies on a course for a wholesome, nurtured and fulfilling life and create echos of birth that are positive echos that benefit this generation and future generations.

Meet the founders

Hello! We are Jo and Martin and we are the creators of the echos of birth community.

We met at high school in England when we were 13 years old, and have been together since we were 15. We have 3 wonderful children, two girls aged 20 and 16, and one boy aged 7.

We left England in 2009 and moved to the suburbs south of Sydney, Australia where we stayed for 13 years. Like a lot of people, the pandemic and related issues that were caused by the management of the pandemic led us to challenge our status quo and question what we wanted for our family. So in March 2022 we sold our house, Martin quit his job, we bought two caravans and took a 6 month road trip up the east coast. Having never even towed a caravan before, it was all quite a new experience for us!

In September 2022 we arrived in the Whitsundays, North Queensland, fell in love with the place and bought a house with a few acres, settled our two youngest into school, our eldest found a job that she loves and we got stuck into building the echos of birth community, something that we had been mentally sculpting and shaping since we first hit the road.

The echos of birth community is the culmination of 20 years of Jo’s training and experience in supporting fertility, pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period using a wide range of modalities, and Martin’s extensive experience in innovation and research management, strategy and business planning. For the first time in our 35 year relationship, it is an opportunity for us to work together on something that we are both passionate about.
